Drug & Alcohol Rehab Serving Pasadena
Licensed, accredited detox and residential care in the Sun Valley foothills, roughly 20–30 minutes west of Old Pasadena.
Pasadena residents tend to do their homework. If you are comparing addiction treatment programs from a laptop in Old Pasadena or the parking lot outside a Huntington Health appointment, you have probably noticed how alike many rehab websites look — the same ocean photos, the same promises. This page is meant to help you see past that.
Reggie’s Recovery Center is about a 20–30 minute drive west of Pasadena, in the foothills of Sun Valley. Below we explain our care honestly, and — more usefully — show you how to check any program, including ours, before you trust it with someone’s life.

How should Pasadena residents choose a rehab?
A good program will welcome hard questions. Before you commit, ask each one you are considering the following, and notice whether the answers are specific or vague.
Questions to ask on the first call
- Who holds your license, and what is the license number? In California, residential addiction treatment and detox must be licensed or certified by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).
- Are you accredited, and by whom? Accreditation from The Joint Commission or CARF is voluntary and means an outside body has reviewed safety and quality standards.
- Who provides medical care during detox? Ask whether nurses are on site around the clock and how a physician is involved.
- Can you treat mental health conditions too? Depression, anxiety and trauma are common alongside addiction. Ask whether psychiatric care is available on staff.
- Which therapies do you use? Look for evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing, not just “holistic” extras.
- Do you offer medication for opioid or alcohol use disorder? Programs that refuse all medication for addiction may not be following current medical guidance.
- What happens after discharge? A real aftercare plan — outpatient, sober living, alumni support — matters as much as the stay itself.
- What will my insurance cover, and what will I owe? Expect a clear verification, not pressure to decide on the phone.
Red flags worth walking away from
- Offers of free travel, free rent or cash to enroll — patient brokering is illegal in California.
- Guaranteed success rates or “cure” language.
- Refusal to give a license number or physical address.
- Pressure to admit immediately before anyone has assessed the person medically.
- A phone line that seems to route you to whichever program pays for the call, without saying so.
How do I verify a rehab’s DHCS license and Joint Commission accreditation?
You do not have to take anyone’s word for it, including ours. Both checks take a few minutes online.
- Step 1Ask for the license number
Any licensed California program should give it to you readily. Ours are DHCS #191228AP and #191557AP.
- Step 2Search DHCS
The California Department of Health Care Services publishes lookups for licensed and certified substance use disorder facilities. Confirm the name, address and status match what the program told you.
- Step 3Check accreditation
The Joint Commission’s Quality Check site lets you search accredited organizations by name or location. Reggie’s is accredited in Behavioral Health Care & Human Services.
- Step 4Look at the address
Make sure the place you would actually stay is the licensed location — not just an office or a call center.
- Step 5Cross-check with SAMHSA
The federal FindTreatment.gov locator is another independent place to see which facilities exist and what they offer.
Is Sun Valley close enough to Pasadena for treatment?
For most families, yes. Twenty to thirty minutes is close enough that a spouse in Altadena or a parent near the Rose Bowl can come for family therapy and structured visits, and far enough that the person in treatment is out of their daily routine — the commute, the usual bar on Colorado Boulevard, the friends who drink. That balance is often better than either a program down the street or one across the country.
It also makes the transition home smoother. When residential care ends, continuing in outpatient care or sober living within the same organization means the people who know your history stay involved.
Which levels of care can Pasadena residents get at Reggie’s?
- Inpatient medical detox — typically 5–10 days with 24/7 nursing, an on-call physician and private suites.
- Residential treatment — 30 to 90 days with CBT, DBT, EMDR, family therapy and holistic practices like yoga and art therapy.
- Partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient — day and evening tracks at Reggie’s Treatment Center.
- Sober living — structured, substance-free housing from 30 days to a year or more.
- Medication-assisted treatment — buprenorphine and naltrexone when clinically appropriate (we do not offer methadone).
- Dual-diagnosis treatment — with on-staff psychiatric care.
We treat alcohol use disorder, opioid and fentanyl addiction, prescription drug misuse, stimulants and polysubstance use.
What does substance use look like in Pasadena and LA County?
Pasadena is one of the few cities in California with its own public health department, separate from the county’s, so local programs and data may come from Pasadena Public Health. Countywide, LA County Public Health has reported that fentanyl now drives much of the rise in overdose deaths, often in pills or powders people did not know contained it.
For families, that means any non-prescribed pill should be treated as potentially dangerous, and naloxone is worth keeping at home. It also means waiting for “rock bottom” is a riskier strategy than it once was.
How do I get from Pasadena to Sun Valley?
Two routes cover most of Pasadena. From central and south Pasadena, many drivers take SR-134 west through Glendale and Burbank, then I-5 north. From north Pasadena and Altadena, I-210 west along the foothills is often simpler before cutting down toward Sun Valley. Either way, plan on roughly 20–30 minutes without heavy traffic; weekday rush hour on the 134 can add more.
Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) is about 10–15 minutes from our campus, which helps when relatives fly in for family weekends. Our admissions team coordinates transportation when someone should not drive themselves.
